Quintessence is the most fundamental force in existence, essentially being the ultimate combination of a particle and energy, being yet more and less than both. In fact, the mysterious energy is said to be Existence itself. To exist, one must possess Quintessence, it is impossible for an entity to not exist without it. Thoughts, emotions, memories, are all comprised of it. Energy and Matter are comprised of it. The material and immaterial all can be bent by the power of Quintessence. Even Primordials are born of it.

Basic Functions[]
Quintessence acts as both particle and energy, similarly to light. It is a constant force, changing shape and charge but never depleting in its flow. The same amount of Quintessence that was put into a Universe at its creation is the same it has to the present day, only the present shape and definition of it changes. Living and Inanimate things, as well as immaterial things such as thought and emotion are tied to it as well. Its most basic function is to give 'purpose' to something and remember that purpose, which is why physics remain stable and memories can last for years.
It is the fundamental force behind Alchemy and Magic, as both in truth are the manipulation of Quintessence, in such a way that Mortals may be given power but not warp reality to extents that could not be repaired. While Deities possess true, unlimited manipulation of Quintessence, they may not use its full extent without express permission from a Primordial.
Magic[]
The manipulation of Quintessence to form an unnatural result. This process is aligned with Chaos, and at its most basic levels allows the manipulation of elements such as Fire, which in reality are charged bursts of Quintessence with elemental properties, while at its most advanced warp the fabric of space and time. However due to laws surrounding it created by Umetherial, Omnimagic/True Magic is sealed from mortal access. Magic for this reason is capable of illogical forces, but its truest form may only be accessed by Apothis, its creator.
Alchemy[]
The manipulation of Quintessence to abide by the laws of science. This process is aligned with Order and at its most basic level, allows the use of on command scientific reactions to create minor bursts of elements, both in the supernatural and natural sense. In its most advanced stages, one can define and adjust the limitations of themselves, others, and the way the laws of science work as a whole. Such use is relegated only to Umetherial and the True Dragons, who know the deepest secrets of the laws of nature and the consequences of wielding them.
